PawsLikeMe has developed a 3-minute smart survey that matches people and pets based on compatibility. The quiz assesses your personality, lifestyle and home as it relates to pet parenting. Adoptable pets are given a similar personality profile. Using an algorithm similar to dating sites, results are tailored to match you with your ideal pet. The results include a description of your ‘ideal pet’ to help you understand what to look for in your next best friend. You will see a list of nearby canine or feline candidates who are in need of a forever home. Your pet list is automatically ranked based on overall match score.
In retrospect, it was a terrible idea. Once home, however, the arrangement proved less than ideal. The rambunctious pup tore across the living room, repeatedly knocking the toddler off her already unsteady feet. Abject chaos—not to mention crying fits—ensued, and the grownups decided that either the child or the pup would have to go.
Happily, a new home was found for the Beagle.

One of the biggest barriers to pet adoption we face today is the lack of response from rescue groups that are overworked, under-resourced, and often struggle to respond to all adoption enquiries. But we understand that when someone falls in love with a pet on PetRescue, and their enquiries go unanswered, it can be very disheartening. Leveraging our greatest strengths as the digital innovators and disruptors of animal welfare, we have the solution – Matchmakers!
So we urgently needed to get rescue pets mobile by bringing all pet search functionality to the mobile website to ensure more rescue pets find their forever home quicker. Thanks to your support, we successfully achieved this by launching the new mobile responsive website, complete with improved pet search functionality, in May Potential pet adopters are now able to create and save their own detailed online adopter profile – sharing essential information about their family, home, existing pets and lifestyle with relevant rescue groups, pounds or shelters when they inquire about a pet.
Not only does this allow faster, more informed decisions to be made about the suitability of the adopter, it also helps eliminate the need for adopters to complete endless adoption forms for every single pet enquiry – something we know turns many people away from rescue and towards other means of obtaining a pet.

The location and age at the top of this page are not relevant so please do not think this only applies to dogs of a certain age or location. We have a small team who will log requests from people who have not found a suitable dog on our website. The potential adopters will need to complete an application form and the team will attempt to find a potentially good match for them within 4 weeks.
If they do, the applicant will be contacted and, if they are interested in the dog that has been suggested, their Match Maker application will be transferred to that dog.

Maestro, one of our longest-standing residents, has finally found his forever home! The big, loveable pooch, now named Boss, is settling in with his new family and is getting on very well with his new fur sibling, Bruiser. Maestro had become a firm favourite amongst staff and volunteers at SDCH, so it was a little sad for us to say goodbye, however nothing could beat seeing him head off to a loving home where he belongs.
Arriving at the Home in May, the 3 year old Bull Mastiff cross is available for adoption, yet is having some trouble finding his forever family. Maestro was found lost at a park in Mortdale and while his microchip was able to be scanned for its unique digit number, it was not registered against any details in Australia. Servicing 8 council areas across the city, they have reunited and rehomed animals in the last month alone.
